I’m incredibly proud to be involved once again wit

I’m incredibly proud to be involved once again with @henleyyouthfestival

Each year, I have the joy of visiting local primary schools, over a two week period, in March to deliver digital photography workshops to years 5 and 6 pupils (ages 10-11)

This years theme is Amazing Animals.

I’m also thrilled to also be invited to be a judge in their new photography competition (My Amazing Pets)

The deadline is 24th February and the prize giving (by invite only) will be at Henley Town Hall.

The Henley Youth festival started over 30 years ago, has over 35 different school workshops, performing arts & music performances as well as writing & art competitions.

This has a close place in my heart as it’s important to fly the flag for the creative & arts - a very credible career path but also to give children as many new experiences as possible so they either enjoy as a hobby or is a career option when they are older.

Photography is a great bit of escapism, helping you slow down and notice things. Even better if within nature.

I love teaching & sharing my passion, and look forward to seeing the photography entries.

Why Pancake Day started 🥞

Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, dates back hundreds of years. It was the last day before Lent began, a period of fasting and reflection in the Christian calendar.

Households would use up rich “treat” ingredients like eggs, milk, butter and sugar before Lent started, and pancakes were the perfect way to do it.

The pancake race tradition
Pancake races are said to have begun in England in the 15th century. Legend has it that a woman, busy making pancakes, heard the church bells calling people to confession and ran to church still holding her frying pan, flipping the pancake as she went.

The tradition stuck, and pancake races are still held today, often timed with the church bells.

What’s your favourite topping? Mine’s lemon & sugar on a thin pancake but I do love a gluten free fluffy Scotch pancake too.

Smartphone photography workshop…

This time last week I was teaching and hosting a Smartphone photography (for leisure) workshop at @leander_club in Henley on Thames.

What a busy week it’s been.

This group were a lot of fun & asked great questions.

We covered -
How to Master a selfie
The importance of light
Smartphone photography camera & video modes
How to edit the photos on the handsets
Time to practice taking photos and thinking about composition
Tips on how to photograph, Nature, People, Pets, Travel.

I love bringing people together, and seeing the light bulb moments.

This time last week, I had the pleasure of photog

This time last week,

I had the pleasure of photographing part of a leadership course/ programme at the stunning Henley Business School, which I understand dates back to 1871 and was built for the W H Smith family. Always love a bit of history.

I was blown away by how well organised it was and exceptionally well delivered and steered by the golden facilitator Sarah Winckless MBE, former GB rower.

The participants had a safe space to share experiences, reflections and learnings. The cohort will be together for the year.

Having worked within the corporate environment, I fully support businesses investing in their teams to enable them to be stronger and fair leaders. There is a big difference between the role of a ‘manager’ and the role of a ‘leader’.
